Can Anyone Tell Me If There Is Any Gold In The New Us Dollar Coins?

by on 2009/10/12

I just bought $100 worth of new gold dollars. I was looking around on the internet after I bought them and I began to wonder if they contain any gold. I thought I was making an investment. If they do not contain gold, can you please tell me where I can buy gold cheaply. Will my bank have gold?

They call it a “Golden Dollar”, not to be confused with gold in any kind of way.

No, there is no gold in the new dollar coin. It is probably not a good investment.
The price of gold is determined by trading on various commodity exchanges. (As of right now — 2:56 pm on 1/2/08 — gold is selling for $856.27 per ounce.)
So there really is no way to buy gold “cheaply.” On the other hands, there are plenty of ways in which you can get ripped off buying gold. So be careful.
Your bank most likely will not sell you gold. You need to look on the web or in the Yellow Pages for a dealer in precious metals.
I should add that, for most people, gold is not a good thing to invest in except as part of a balanced diversified investment portfolio.

my mom actually sells gold. its not cheap. if you want gold call these people 1-800-buycoin and ask for Susan Ekstrom, she will tell you the different types of gold, which ones are best to buy and which ones can be confiscated by the government and which ones are non taxable.
if your talking about coins, only coins that have never been touched have any real value. If they have been touched, this means they have been surculated and they only have a face value(whatever it says its worth on the coin, is what its worth)
check out the book the official united states coins by R.S. Yeoman it will tell you the worth of any coin or you can call 1-800-buy-coin and they can tell you how much they are worth.
gold is a steady smart purchase, they are safer than stocks and wont loose value unlike the dollar
