"1969s DDO Lincoln Cent" by LookAtYourChange This is an EXTREMELY rare variety that can be found in your pocket change. A group of counterfeiters made fake 1969 Philadelphia cents that had a stronger doubled die than the 1955 Lincoln Cent. The fakes were EASILY indentifiable because they didn't realize the US Mint reduced the size of Lincoln's portrait in 1969. Apparently the Secret Service had trouble identifying them too, because they confiscated, tested, damaged, or destroyed early finds thinking they were also counterfeits. After they realized the coins from the San Francisco Mint were real, they returned the remaining examples to the original finders. Also, the US Mint noticed them during the production run and it is estimated that only a few bags were released that contained the DDO's with the "regular" coins too. ***The west coast has the best chance to find them due to the San Francisco Mint producing them, and the east coast being the least likely to find these.*** Look for this variety before the Lincoln Cent is demonetized and the copper cents are all melted!
