Why did the US Mint stop making gold and silver eagles for 2009?

by on 2009/12/14

I was checking the US Mint website and learned that they most likely won't be selling any Gold or Silver eagle coins because of the demand. Are they planning on minting the Gold and Silver eagle coins in sufficient quantities for collectors anytime soon? Will they be available next year?

There is a link at this webpage which shows the 2009 American Eagle mintage which might be lower than most years. These are always available for a limited time, and I believe the time has expired for 2009. You should be able to find these from many coin dealers but at a premium price. Good luck.

They sometimes run out of planchets due to high volume of sales. they may catch up and strike more. There is little demand for regular coinage due to the economy so they need something to do. Keep trying. I see plenty for sale by dealers and as was said they do have time limits. Check their web site from time to time. I have not seen any articles that the mint was having problems with eagles.

Because they do not want to give you real value.

It’s really better for the government to publish you more money paper (sorry, I meant “money”), rather than giving you bullion into hands.

If you are asking these questions, I would also recommend to ask another question “Why the heck has the jun silver been almost wiped out and whenever you ask a dealer about junk silver on their sites – they say and this is already for a long time!”

Invest into bullion. Be smart! Don’t let the paper money to make you the master of paper.
